Vivianne Ronneman, Director of Treatment, Checkpoint
Outline of speech to the ECAD 10th Anniversary Mayors' Conference
Stockholm
May 16, 2003

City of Stockhlom, Directors of ECAD, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentleman,
I feel honoured to be asked to present Checkpoint´s out patient programme to you today.
Checkpoint has been established in Stockholm for the last 10 years. It has been seen to be the "cutting edge" of city treatment .Checkpoint was pioneer in Sweden with the concept of out patient programme treating drug addiction (particularly for young adults) as a viable alternative to other forms e.g. therapeutic communities, or inpatient treatment. Checkpoint works with the inner city and surrounding boroughs of Stockholm. It also has a successful working relationship with the private sector (small and large companies). Lets for a moment take a look at the working relationship with the city of Stockholm.
Checkpoint is a privately run treatment centre that has over many years worked together with the social services in treating dependency. Once a client´s needs are assessed by the social services Checkpoint can then be contacted and an interview /information meeting is booked as part of the first step.

Vivianne then talks about:
how Checkpoint works
treatment concepts
philosophy
patient profile including the immigrant patient profile
results
cost.

Checkpoint experience is that recovery from drug dependency is possible. With both professional and self help, we as a city stand a better chance at confronting the drug problem and the consequences it poses to its citizens.
